Things That Make Me Feel Alive in Spring (And Might Help You Too)

Things That Make Me Feel Alive in Spring (And Might Help You Too)

Spring has a way of breathing life back into everything — the land, our routines, our goals, and even our moods. The longer, sunnier days feel like an invitation to shake off winter’s hibernation energy and welcome new beginnings. Whether you're looking to get outside and explore or refresh your space at home, spring is a season full of opportunity.

Here are some of my favorite things to do in the springtime that help me feel more grounded, energized, and excited for what's ahead:

Get Outside & Into Nature

Hit the Trails
Spring is an incredible time to reconnect with nature. The snow starts to melt, trails begin to thaw, and everything comes alive — from blooming wildflowers like California’s poppies to the mossy greens of the Pacific Northwest. Trail running or hiking locally gives you a front-row seat to all that fresh, vibrant growth.

Off-Road Adventures
If you're into dirt bikes, ATVs, or other off-road fun, this is your season. The still-damp ground makes for the best kind of muddy, adrenaline-filled ride before everything dries out for summer.

Lakes, Rivers & Ocean Fun
It might still be a bit chilly, but if you have the right wetsuit, it’s totally possible to get out on the water early. Paddleboarding, kayaking, fishing, or even a chilly swim can be totally doable (and super refreshing) in lakes like Coeur d’Alene or even the ocean! It’s prime time for certain fish species and getting on a boat or a bank in water temps in the 40s-50s°F can be cold, but worth it for early kokanee or coastal steelhead (pro tip: bring a portable heater, small propane bbq, warm drinks, dress cozy, and you’ll be good all day).

Early-Season Camping
Spring camping hits different — crisp mornings, quiet landscapes, hot drinks by the fire. If you’ve got a good setup like a canvas tent or small camper, you’re golden. Bonus points if you bring your archery gear or go for a bit of safe, solo target practice in the woods. There’s something peaceful about it all.

Just Walk It Out
Sometimes all you need is a walk around the block. Soak up that vitamin D, breathe in the fresh air, and get those steps in. It’s simple but effective.

Spring Refresh at Home

Clean & Refresh Your Yard
Time to rake up the yard, fill in holes, plant grass seed, and hose off the patio furniture. You can even start some hardy early blooms like pansies or petunias — just make sure you know your zone and frost dates before diving into planting. (Zone 5 and below, I’m looking at you — don’t get tricked by the garden center displays!)

Light Home Decor Updates
Think spring wreaths, colorful doormats, or small touches like a new throw blanket or rug. Refreshing your space doesn’t have to be a full renovation. Even just organizing or swapping out a few items makes a difference.

Deep Clean Your Ride
Detailing your car in spring feels so satisfying. Clear out the clutter, add an essential oil diffuser or a cute, aromatic freshener, and hang a fake plant or something decorative that makes you smile, in the rearview. Clean car = clear mind, even if you're just cruising down the street.

Create an Outdoor Chill Spot
Set up a hammock, hang a bird feeder, clean up your deck — make your outdoor area a place you want to spend time in. Even a tiny balcony or small backyard can feel like a peaceful retreat with the right vibe.

Spring Projects & Personal Growth

Tidy Up & Simplify
Start small — one drawer, one room, one corner. Donate what doesn’t serve you, clean your living space, and aim for that balance between lived-in and peaceful. Your home should feel like your sanctuary.

Bring in the Greenery
Spring is perfect for propagating plants, refreshing your indoor pots, or starting seedlings (especially if you’ve got a sunny window or grow light). I love using our propagation plates to multiply and gift plants or just make my space feel more alive.

Eat With the Season
Start shifting your meals to reflect what’s growing now — think greens, asparagus, strawberries, radishes, and peas. Eating seasonally supports your health, the earth, and your local farmers. I’ll drop a full list of spring seasonal foods in a separate post soon.

Try a New Hobby at Home
Get into cooking with spring produce, try out some spring crafts, or move your workouts outdoors. Start a garden journal, get into yoga, or explore your creativity with a new art or DIY project.

Journaling & Self-Reflection
Spring is an ideal time to check in with your goals, reflect on the past season, and create intentions moving forward. Journaling is such a powerful tool — I’ll be sharing prompts in a future post if you want to dive deeper.

Spring Is What You Make It

Whether you’re outside playing in the mud, soaking in the sunshine, or refreshing your space at home, this season is all about waking back up. Take it slow or dive in — there’s no wrong way to spring forward.

Here’s to new beginnings, sunny days, and a fresh perspective.
